National Cherry Pit-Spit Championship

Join the excitement at the NZ National Cherry Pit-Spit Championship in the Cromwell Heritage Precinct, proudly hosted by the Cromwell & Districts Promotion Group. This quirky and beloved annual event attracts participants of all ages, as they showcase their skills in a friendly competition to see who can spit cherry pits (stones) the farthest.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Dunstan and surrounding mountains, this event is a fantastic chance for both local and out-of-town visitors to immerse themselves in the region’s vibrant culture and natural beauty, and embrace their competitive edge!

In the lead up to the event, why not discover the charming and boutique stores, cafes and art galleries located in the heritage surroundings; or meander through the Cromwell Farmers’ and Craft Market running on the same day, making it the perfect opportunity to explore local produce and artisanal goods while you enjoy the festivities.

There will also be a fun Colouring Competition for both the young and young at heart, as well as a "Best Cherry Fest Dressed" contest to celebrate the season in style—so make sure to wear your most vibrant, cherry-inspired outfit!
