About the event
The Lake Dunstan Cycle Challenge forms part of the action-packed Cromwell Summer Series that comprises this event plus a mountain bike ride, a triathlon and a half marathon.
The Lake Dunstan Cycle Challenge is a 96km sealed road circuit, generally flat, from Cromwell around Lake Dunstan passing through Northburn, Tarras, Luggate and back down Wanaka Road, returning to The Gate Hospitality & Tourist Centre.
Your safety
This ride will involve riding on State highway 6, 8A and 8B.
Race Rules:
- Ride as far left as practical.
- Absolutely no crossing the centreline permitted.
- No support vehicles to follow the riders/race.
- You must make attempts to not impede the normal traffic flow.
- You must obey all normal road rules, the instructions provided at the ‘race briefing’, and the direction of the marshals.
NOTE: The Race Referee will disqualify any rider disobeying race/road rules.
Generally, disruption to the State highway must be kept to a minimum. Traffic management marshals will be monitoring various conflict points such as the one-way bridges at Lindis Crossing and Luggate. The marshals will warn competitors and other road users of hazards only. They have no power to stop traffic.
COURSE DETAILS
Start and Finish
Registration will be at The Gate from 9 am. You will be given a transponder and race number at registration. Please be early for registration – please note a late entry fee applies to entries on the day.
The race starts from The Gate behind Pilot Vehicle after briefing at 10:45 am.
Finish is on Shortcut Road, before returning to The Gate via the new underpass under SH8B for prizegiving.
PLEASE NOTE there is a very sharp turn off SH6 onto Shortcut Road, so take extra care there.
All equipment shall be the competitor’s responsibility and shall conform in all ways to the ‘Race Rules’.
Competitors must listen carefully to instructions at the briefing, and note that an ‘Event Plan’ will be available for inspection.
Copies of the ‘Race Briefing’ will be available at the Registration Desk.
Note that persons who do not sign the ‘Entry Form’ nor attend the ‘Race Briefing’ will not be allowed to enter the race. Aero bars are permitted – use as directed at the briefing.
Note: Please follow directions at the briefing. Further, note that no racing will be permitted from the start to Deadman’s Point Bridge… this zone is NEUTRAL. Racing is not permitted after crossing the finish line on Shortcut Road (”Race Finish”) to The Gate Car Park. Riders are to maintain their places in this NEUTRAL zone. Times will be recorded when you cross the finish line at The Gate. Parking, refreshments and social facilities will be available at The Gate.
