About the event

Join the excitement at the NZ National Cherry Stone Spitting Competition in the Cromwell Heritage Precinct, proudly hosted by the Cromwell & Districts Promotion Group. This quirky and beloved annual event attracts participants from all over, as they showcase their skills in a friendly competition to see who can spit cherry stones the farthest.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Dunstan and surrounding mountains, this event is a fantastic chance for both local and out-of-town visitors to immerse themselves in the region’s vibrant culture and natural beauty, and embrace their competitive edge!

Adding to the fun in 2024, the Cromwell Farmers’ and Craft Market will be running on the same day, making it the perfect opportunity to explore local produce and artisanal goods while you enjoy the festivities.

This competition is more than just a contest—it’s a family friendly celebration of summer, laughter, and the unique charm of Cromwell and its districts. Bring your friends and family to cheer on the contenders, sample fresh local fare at the market, and make unforgettable memories in the heart of New Zealand’s cherry-growing paradise!
