Cromwell is full of so many amazing activities and sights, it can be hard to decide what you should do first. If you only have one day in Cromwell, here is a fun itinerary to give you a taste of what the town and district can offer.
One day in Cromwell
Eat a Cromnut
Start your morning at the Cromwell Bakery in the Mall with a delicious coffee and a Cromnut. Get them while they’re hot and fresh – and while there are still in the cabinet! They get snapped up pretty quickly, so make sure to call ahead and order when coming with a big group.
Visit Highlands
With your caffeine fix sorted, head to Highlands to get your adrenaline fix. Challenge your mates to a round or two of go-karts, race around the track at 180 km/h in the Highlands Taxi, and visit the Highlands Museum for an amazing display of NZ and international motoring history.
Lakeside lunch at Armando’s
After a morning spent whizzing around, you will be ready to take things slower during lunchtime. Take a stroll through the Cromwell Heritage Precinct and then take a seat at Armando’s Kitchen for some of the best, authentic Italian food in the region.
Four Barrels Walking Wine Trail
No trip to Cromwell will be complete without sampling some of the wines the region has to offer. A fantastic way to explore Cromwell’s wines is going on the Four Barrels Walking Wine Trail. The 8 km loop track starts at Misha’s Vineyard, takes you along Lake Dunstan to Aurum Wines, along the backroads and farmland to Scott Base, and then back again to Wooing Tree Wines. The trail can easily be completed in 4 hours (including tastings), but the cellar doors can also be visited via car if the day is proving a bit short.
